The Real Questions
What everyone is asking right now.
I'm not a REALTOR® and I'm not planning to become one. Can I still join?
Yes, provided you are a licensed managing broker. Mainstreet Connect+ is designed exactly for that. It gives your office full MRED MLS access plus Mainstreet's local infrastructure — business tools, education, support and member services — without requiring NAR or Illinois REALTORS® membership. You stay connected locally even if your office operates outside the REALTOR® structure.
Do I have to leave my current local MLS or association to join Mainstreet?
No. If you already hold REALTOR® membership through another local association, our MLS Only Membership is built for you — full MRED MLS access without paying for duplicate association dues.
My managing broker hasn't decided which path the office is taking. What should I do?
Reserve your spot and tell us. A Mainstreet team member will walk through the four paths with you and your managing broker, and help you map the right setup for your office structure. No commitment required to talk.
Can REALTOR® members and Connect+ subscribers be in the same office?
Under the three-way agreement, REALTORS® and Connect+ subscribers can't share the same designated managing broker. If your office wants to offer both, you'll set up two offices under separate managing brokers — they can share the same physical address. A Mainstreet team member will walk you through it.
What does the Private Listing Network include?
The PLN subscription provides access to MRED's Private Listing Network — allowing your listings to be shared inside the professional community while limiting broader public exposure. Recent MRED policy changes allow PLN listings to display on virtual office websites (VOW) with seller approval.
Can I switch from a REALTOR® to a Connect+ (non-REALTOR®) Subscriber right now?
No. Your local, state and national dues for 2026 are paid in full. It is suggested that you wait until closer to 2027 to determine if you would like to switch from one option to another.
Can REALTORS® and Connect+ Subscribers be under the same Managing Broker?
No. It is up to the Managing Broker to determine if the office will remain a REALTOR® office or move to the Connect+ Subscriber office. This would occur closer to 2027.
An office could choose to offer both options. To offer both, the office would need two separate Managing Brokers — one of whom is a licensed real estate agent but not a REALTOR®.
In practice, this would function as two distinct offices sharing the same address, each with its own Managing Broker.
What happens if an arbitration or ethics complaint comes up between a REALTOR® and a Connect+ Subscriber?
Connect+ Subscribers will be required to follow both MRED and Mainstreet REALTORS® Codes of Conduct, which includes the requirement to arbitrate business disputes.
Mainstreet REALTORS® Code of Conduct is designed to supplement MRED’s Code of Conduct and mirrors similar principals found in the National Association of REALTORS’s Code of Ethics.
How will MainstreetRealtors.com signify whether an office is a REALTOR® office or a Connect+ Subscriber office?
Offices that are REALTOR® offices will display the REALTOR® "R" logo next to them.
Do Connect+ Subscribers have access to Mainstreet and Illinois REALTOR® forms?
Connect+ Subscribers have access to all Mainstreet forms. They do not have access to Illinois REALTOR® forms.
For the REALTORS® membership tier, in the description it says, “Existing members are being upgraded - at no additional dues - with new tools, new data new access and new recognition.” – what are these new tools, data and access that is being referred to? I reviewed the chart showing all the different things included with each tier but I cannot tell what is NEW in that REALTOR® tier as opposed to what was included in the 2026 dues.
The first benefit that is new is the option for Healthcare Insurance with affordable guaranteed-issue options. But we are set to have several more benefits coming in the very near future.
For that $1,265 annual cost – what is the breakdown of fees going towards each Mainstreet, IR and NAR? That is usually listed in the agents’ invoices at time of renewal. With such a large increase from the 2026 dues, where is the increase going towards?
The $1265 are the fees you currently pay as a REALTOR® member in total. There is no increase as of today, we just listed it this way to show overall cost per year. $540 is the total of the semi-annual Mainstreet Advantage fee (that covers MRED, Sentrilock, Forewarn and other benefits) and the remaining $725 covers the Local, State and National fees.
For the option that excludes Illinois REALTORS®, how are disclosures handled since we would be losing access to all Illinois REALTORS® forms? Will Mainstreet have their own versions of the forms?
Mainstreet has been working to create forms that can be used instead of the current Illinois REALTORS® forms. However, because our REALTOR® members already have access to the Illinois REALTORS® forms through the end of 2026 as part of their paid dues, we are not ready to release these options yet.
